Well, hello there...
Welcome to our informal journey through time!
(Of course, I’m inspired by Christopher Nolan’s Tenet movie I watched the other day! Twice in a row, if I may add: Apparently, I could not entirely fathom his script and whole 150 minutes of bending my mind in one take.)
Indeed...
If you could pick one period in human history to live in, 'when' would you choose?
Would it be the eighties and their awful-haircuts or the peace-loving 1970s? Maybe 1960s or even 1950s? (We might have one Super Admin who'll pick up the latter, but then again, who knows?)
Perhaps the beginning of the 20th or the industrially revolutionized 19th century? Or the Wild West era? Maybe the Antebellum period of the 18th century?
Could it be the Baroque and golden ages of the 17th century, or if you’re into the peak of samurai culture, the Tokugawa Shogunate? If you opt for Venice at this particular time-frame, you most certainly have to visit Il Ridotto, the first-ever casino!
Or…
Would you like to join Leonardo da Vinci, Magellan, Cortes, Shakespeare, Anne Boleyn, Nostradamus, or Pocahontas in the 16th century?
Maybe you’re the renaissance person who’d prefer the company of de’ Medici family, Michelangelo, Copernicus, Galileo Galilei?
Would you go even further back?
Assuming medieval times might be too dark — or not if you’re into spectacular Gothic architectural feats — would you like to visit Ancient Rome or even Greece? Perhaps Egyptians are your thing?
Or you would go all the way back to the very beginning of time, joining Adam and Eve, to see what exactly happened in that whole apple story?
As for me...
I would pick the Roaring Twenties.
I mean, the fashion, women’s haircuts, culture, jazz, Paris, Chicago, New York City, Berlin, airplanes, parties, hats, celebrations of life, horse racetracks, Babe Ruth, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Greta Garbo, freewheeling exuberance, the first flowering of backgammon in America, great style, grand heroes, unexplored nature…
Everything in this decade is so appealing to me.
We were free, running on the heels of the Great War and the flu pandemic, decadent yet innocent, driven by promises of neverending tomorrow so vividly, though entirely unrelated, described by Coldplay in one of their songs:
“Don’t you wanna see it come soon, floating in a big white balloon or given on your own silver spoon, don’t you wanna see it come down there to throw in your arms around and say ‘you’re not a moment too soon’?”
If you opt for the same period in human history, I’ll await you in Paris, France. If you agree, once we visit Europe, I suggest we take the voyage across the Atlantic, and, when we depart the big white ship in NYC, you can tell me where you want to go next.

Bem-vindos à nossa jornada informal no tempo!
(É claro que me inspirei no filme Tenet, de Christopher Nolan, que assisti outro dia! Duas vezes seguidas, se me permite acrescentar: aparentemente, não consegui entender completamente o roteiro dele e os 150 minutos inteiros que ele passou dobrando minha mente em uma única tomada.)
De fato...
Se você pudesse escolher um período da história humana para viver, "quando" você escolheria?
Seriam os anos 80 e seus cortes de cabelo horríveis ou os pacíficos anos 70? Talvez os anos 60 ou até 50? (Podemos ter um Super Admin que adotará o último, mas, afinal, quem sabe?)
Talvez o início do século XX ou o século XIX, marcado pela revolução industrial? Ou a era do Velho Oeste? Talvez o período pré-guerra civilizacional do século XVIII?
Seria o Barroco e a Idade de Ouro do século XVII, ou, se você gosta do auge da cultura samurai, o Xogunato Tokugawa? Se você optar por Veneza neste período específico, certamente precisa visitar o Il Ridotto, o primeiro cassino da história!
Ou…
Você gostaria de se juntar a Leonardo da Vinci, Magalhães, Cortés, Shakespeare, Ana Bolena, Nostradamus ou Pocahontas no século XVI?
Talvez você seja uma pessoa renascentista que preferiria a companhia da família Medici, Michelangelo, Copérnico, Galileu Galilei?
Você iria ainda mais longe?
Supondo que a época medieval seja sombria demais — ou não, se você gosta de obras arquitetônicas góticas espetaculares —, você gostaria de visitar a Roma Antiga ou até mesmo a Grécia? Talvez os egípcios sejam sua praia?
Ou você voltaria até o começo dos tempos, juntando-se a Adão e Eva, para ver exatamente o que aconteceu em toda aquela história da maçã?
Quanto a mim...
Eu escolheria os loucos anos 20 .
Quero dizer, a moda, os cortes de cabelo femininos, a cultura, o jazz, Paris, Chicago, Nova York, Berlim, aviões, festas, chapéus, celebrações da vida, pistas de corrida de cavalos, Babe Ruth, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Greta Garbo, a exuberância desenfreada, o primeiro florescimento do gamão na América, grande estilo, grandes heróis, natureza inexplorada...
Tudo nesta década é tão atraente para mim.
Éramos livres, correndo na esteira da Grande Guerra e da pandemia de gripe, decadentes, mas inocentes, movidos por promessas de um amanhã sem fim tão vividamente, embora totalmente sem relação, descritas pelo Coldplay em uma de suas músicas:
"Você não quer ver isso acontecer logo, flutuando em um grande balão branco ou dado em sua própria colher de prata, você não quer ver isso chegar aí para jogar em seus braços e dizer 'você não está nem um momento cedo demais'?"
Se optar pelo mesmo período da história da humanidade, espero por você em Paris, França. Se concordar, quando visitarmos a Europa, sugiro que façamos a viagem através do Atlântico e, quando partirmos do grande navio branco em Nova York, você pode me dizer para onde quer ir em seguida.
