I owned a 1981 Toyota celica Hatchback, i owned it in 1991 bought from the original owner who worked as a car salesman, the toyota had a brand new motor in it, and a few other things long ago i don't remember all that was new about it.
Love this car took me everywhere, never broke down on me, i replaced the clutch once, and new brakes of course, always got compliments on it being it's age and how well it ran from mechanics when i would do the tune-ups..
But i did notice a little bit that it was sluggish, not bad, just slightly.. i took it in to see about it come to find out it had a crack in the manafold, i was like OMG thats gonna cost a bundle.. the mechanic added, "i had better get this fixed right away it was not healthy, fumes can make you sick".
Went home and called around several places trying to get estimates, and.. yuck they were outrageous. I called one mechanic, and explained got into a discussion about the money, barely being able to afford it, he got quiet, then said.. "i'm not supposed to tell you this but there was a re-call on your toyota, that the manafolds and exhaust being installed were faulty" he said take your car to a toyota dealer.. they will fix it for free, and low and behold i got $2,000 worth of work done on it for free. They took my car in fixed it no questions asked.
Meantime.. i remembered back when i would take these long drives with my daughter when i got home, i would have these terrible headaches and i felt.. grouchy and mean.. i would say.. this is not me being like this! It was those fumes and i can only imagine with my daughter so young that she couldn't tell me anything was wrong with her.. makes me sick

Eu tive um Toyota Celica Hatchback 1981, comprei-o em 1991 do dono original, que trabalhava como vendedor de carros. O Toyota tinha um motor novinho e algumas outras coisas. Há muito tempo não me lembro de todas as novidades.
Adoro esse carro, me leva a todos os lugares, nunca quebrou, troquei a embreagem uma vez e, claro, coloquei freios novos. Sempre recebi elogios dos mecânicos por sua idade e pelo bom desempenho quando eu fazia os ajustes.
Mas notei um pouco que ele estava lento, nada mal, só um pouco... Levei para dar uma olhada e descobri que tinha uma rachadura no coletor, pensei: "Meu Deus, isso vai custar uma fortuna..." O mecânico acrescentou: "É melhor eu consertar isso logo, não está bom, os gases podem deixar você doente".
Fui para casa e liguei para vários lugares tentando fazer orçamentos, e... que nojo, eles foram absurdos. Liguei para um mecânico e expliquei que começamos a discutir sobre o dinheiro, já que mal tinha dinheiro para pagar. Ele ficou quieto e disse: "Não preciso te contar isso, mas houve um recall do seu Toyota, que os coletores e o escapamento que estavam sendo instalados estavam com defeito". Ele disse: "Leve seu carro a uma concessionária Toyota... eles vão consertar de graça, e vejam só, consegui US$ 2.000 em serviços de graça. Eles levaram meu carro e consertaram sem fazer perguntas.
Enquanto isso... lembrei-me de quando eu fazia essas longas viagens com minha filha, quando chegava em casa, tinha dores de cabeça terríveis e me sentia... mal-humorada e mal-humorada... eu dizia... não sou eu assim! Eram aqueles vapores, e eu só consigo imaginar, com minha filha tão pequena, que ela não conseguia me dizer que havia algo de errado com ela... me dá nojo.
Eu nunca saberia desse recall...
